Amid the vibrant atmosphere of the early days of spring, the “Vietnamese Tet” activity organized at Van Lang Saigon College (VLSC) offered students a meaningful cultural experience space, where the traditional values of Vietnam’s Lunar New Year were vividly and authentically brought to life.

More than simply a New Year celebration, the program provided students with opportunities to actively participate, experience, and gain deeper insights into Vietnamese cultural identity. Through this engagement, students were encouraged to develop a sense of responsibility in preserving and promoting traditional values within the context of modern education.

Experiencing Chung Cake Making – A Journey Back to Vietnamese Cultural Roots

One of the highlights of the “Vietnamese Tet” activity was the traditional chung cake–making experience. Students directly took part in the entire process, from preparing ingredients and arranging banana leaves to filling and completing the chung cakes—an iconic symbol of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year.

Through this hands-on activity, students not only gained a clearer understanding of the origin and cultural significance of chung cake, but also felt the spirit of family reunion, togetherness, and gratitude toward their cultural roots-core values that contribute to shaping individual character and cultural identity.

In addition, the cake-making process helped students develop dexterity, patience, and teamwork skills, which are essential competencies for both academic pursuits and future professional environments.

Traditional Tet Cuisine Space – Preserving the Values of Reunion and Sharing

The “Vietnamese Tet” activity also recreated a traditional Tet culinary space through a New Year meal featuring chung cake and familiar Vietnamese dishes. This was not only an opportunity for students to enjoy the flavors of Tet, but also a chance to fully appreciate the deeper meaning of reunion, sharing, and emotional connection embedded in Vietnamese cultural life.

Within the warm atmosphere of the early year, students were able to relax, balance their emotions, and recharge their energy, while clearly feeling the College’s care and companionship in supporting students’ spiritual well-being.

Interaction and Connection – Building a Humane Learning Environment

Alongside cultural experiences, the program created opportunities for students to interact, communicate, and connect with peers and lecturers in a friendly and open learning environment.

The warm and welcoming atmosphere of the “Vietnamese Tet” activity contributed to strengthening the sense of community, fostering belonging, and enhancing emotional bonds within the Van Lang Saigon College environment. This foundation plays an important role in helping students develop communication skills, teamwork spirit, and self-confidence throughout their academic journey.

Spreading Cultural Values in a Comprehensive Educational Journey

Through the “Vietnamese Tet” activity, Van Lang Saigon College continues to affirm its educational orientation that integrates practical experiences with cultural values. The College not only equips students with professional knowledge, but also emphasizes nurturing emotions, understanding, and appreciation for the nation’s traditional cultural heritage.

This serves as a solid foundation for students’ holistic development—harmonizing knowledge, skills, and cultural identity – preparing them to adapt effectively and contribute positively to society in the future.
